Edmonton

It`s time to tell you some facts about my current hometown EDMONTON:

Edmonton is the provincial capital of Alberta. It is the second largest city in Alberta after Calgary, with a metropolitan population of 1,034,945.
The reason for a rapid growth of population was the discovery of oil near Edmonton at 1947. People call Edmonton the Oil Capital of Canada.

The city has got a university called the University of Alberta.

Edmonton receives 2,289 hours of sunshine per year, and is one of Canada's sunniest cities. So far there hasn´t been a single rainy day since I´m here.

One of the most popular streets to enjoy the city`s nightlife is the Whyte Avenue. There are numerous restaurants, pubs and trendy clubs to be found. You should always take your ID card with you, because no matter which age, really everybody gets controlled. Smoking inside pubs and restaurants is forbidden what is very convenient. But beer is quite expensive. You usually have to pay about seven dollars for one bottle.

One of my favourite places is the river valley park. I like it much to go jogging on the bank of the North Saskatchewan River. There are a lot of cyclists as well and you have to keep attention if you run aside the street.

Visiting Calgary

This weekend Gregor and I went to Calgary. There we visited Jo, Jürgen, Andi and Maggi. They are colleagues of us and staying in Canada for doing an internship just like we. Except Maggi, who took a semester off to gain life-experience and care about Andi...:-).

On Saturday we visited Banff National Park. From Calgary it takes about one and a half hour to go there. We sauntered through the town for a while and then went up to the famous Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.

I like Banff N. P. but compared to Jasper N. P. it is much more touristy. But of course I am far from having seen all of the park...

On Saturday evening we went out for food and afterwards had some beer in a pub. It was a nice evening.

On Sunday we decided to go downtown. Calgary has a quiet nice skyline and some lovely parks.

Summing up we had a nice weekend and we hope to become invited again...;-)

Finally we have a car!

Last weekend Gregor and I bought us a car. For those who don`t know, Gregor is one of my colleagues from Rosenheim. We are both doing our internship at Canus Construction. We live in the same street and so we decided to try car sharing... Well, this Van is big enough for two, I think.
It is a Chrysler Grand Voyager 3,3l V6 and it has 165 PS. We payed 1900 bugs for the car. Unfortunally we couldn`t fix the radio yet. But we are good singers...
There you can see my "home sweet home". Nice colour, isn`t it? I have two roommates, both German. My home isn`t far from my work. With our new car it takes us about ten minutes.
That is our living room and in the back our kitchen. The blue sofa is mine. There I usually sit and work on my Blog...
